The Juicy Lucy is a classic Minnesota recipe for a burger stuffed with cheese.
Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds ground beef (15-20% fat content)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
4 slices American cheese
Vegetable oil, for oiling the grill
4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
Instructions
- Place the meat in a large bowl and add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and the Worcestershire. Mix with your hands until just evenly combined.
- Cut each slice of cheese in half, then in half again to form 4 squares. Stack the pieces on top of each other to form 4 stacks; set aside.
- Divide the meat into 4 equal portions. Divide each portion in half and form each portion into a patty.
- With your thumb, press an indented well in the center of 4 patties and put the portioned cheese in the wells. Encase the cheese with the remaining 4 patties, hand forming your burger to a uniform shape with sealed edges.
- Heat skillet or grill to medium heat. Add a little vegetable oil and then add your burgers, cook until well browned, about 4 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns.
