The Juicy Lucy is a classic Minnesota recipe for a burger stuffed with cheese.

Ingredients

1 1/2 pounds ground beef (15-20% fat content)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
4 slices American cheese
Vegetable oil, for oiling the grill
4 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Instructions

  1. Place the meat in a large bowl and add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and the Worcestershire. Mix with your hands until just evenly combined.
  2. Cut each slice of cheese in half, then in half again to form 4 squares. Stack the pieces on top of each other to form 4 stacks; set aside.
  3. Divide the meat into 4 equal portions. Divide each portion in half and form each portion into a patty.
  4. With your thumb, press an indented well in the center of 4 patties and put the portioned cheese in the wells. Encase the cheese with the remaining 4 patties, hand forming your burger to a uniform shape with sealed edges.
  5. Heat skillet or grill to medium heat. Add a little vegetable oil and then add your burgers, cook until well browned, about 4 minutes. Serve on hamburger buns.
